- Safety trumps politics in blood donation (24 May 2013)
- In absence of sufficient data, Health Canada used Monte Carlo statistical method to determine risk probabilities of changing MSM policy (CMAJ, 28 May 2013)
- HC changed policy based on results of computer simulations using random sampling from probability distributions. And yes, Monte Carlo method gets its name from the gambling casino in Monte Carlo. It was invented in late 1940s by a scientist working at Los Alamos National Laboratory whose uncle gambled there.
- CBS changes MSM policy
- No sex with man in the last 5 years eligible to donate (22 May 2013) | CBS did not go to 1 yr deferral as Australia and UK did
- Dr. Dana Devine, VP, Medical, Scientific & Research Affairs, CBS (paraphrased): Limited no. gay men eligible but will include men who experimented with MSM as youth but are now heterosexual, and men raped as boys

- Will take years to gather valid dataset to evaluate impact of changed policy on blood safety data as incidence of HIV+ donors is extremely low
