About Wendy Owens

Wendy Owens, ART, B Comm

Wendy has worked in the field of transfusion medicine as a medical laboratory technologist for over 20 years, the majority of it in the active transfusion service of a large teaching hospital in Ottawa. After obtaining her Bachelor of Commerce degree, she gained a broader perspective on the blood system by working for Canadian Blood Services as both a laboratory manager and then as a hospital liaison specialist for the Northern and Eastern Ontario Region.

Wendy is currently the Regional Blood Coordinator for Northern and Eastern Ontario for The Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network (ORBCoN). Among other projects, she participated on a working group to develop a Provincial Contingency Plan as well as a companion 'toolkit' to aid hospitals in the management of transfusion needs in the event of a blood supply shortage.

Professional activities

Wendy has served on the transfusion medicine scientific committee for the Ontario Quality Management Programs ? Laboratory Services (QMPLS), is a qualified Ontario Laboratory Accreditation Assessor, and is currently the Secretary ? Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine (CSTM).
