Case Studies

This section features interactive case studies for both practicing and student technologists, nurses, and physicians.

The policies and serological procedures used to investigate the cases reflect Canadian practices but include international protocols and practices, as appropriate. Individuals should always adhere to the policies developed in their institutions.

CSMLS PEP Credits

TraQ cases are eligible for CSMLS Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) credits.

TraQ cases are divided into three categories:

• Level A cases reflect the practice of large transfusion services where complex testing is performed routinely.
• Level B cases reflect the practice of small hospitals where only basic testing is performed or the laboratory acts as a dispensary. Basic testing is usually limited to a group and screen and crossmatch. Grouping discrepancies and antibody identification is done externally.
• Level "O" cases were originally developed elsewhere and are presented here with educational enhancements. They include cases with basic and complex practices.
