How does scope of practice relate to questioning the actions of other health professionals?

Scope of practice relates to the activities that members of a profession can or cannot do as defined by law in order to ensure that health providers have appropriate education and qualifications.

However, health practitioners have a primary duty to patients and must protect patient safety even if it means questioning the actions of members of another profession that may put patients at risk.

Although specifying the rate of transfusion is within the scope of practice of physicians, if the physician specifies a rate that does not follow established standards, other health providers have a duty to protect the patient by questioning the order.
