About Lisa Merkley

Lisa L. Merkley, BA, MLT, CBTS

Lisa is the Manager of the Blood & Tissue Bank at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.

Graduate of Queen’s University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of Arts (Biology) in 1987, Mohawk College, Medical Laboratory Technology Certification in 1990.

Scientific career began at the Centre of Forensic Sciences and then Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Sciences Centre (SWCHSC), as a General Technologist in the departments of Hematology and Blood Transfusion

In collaboration with the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control and the NIH in the U.S., the department of Transfusion Medicine was invited to become a pilot site in the MERS-TM (Medical Event Reporting System - Transfusion Medicine) program.

Currently co-investigator for the SWCHSC site and have the responsibility of analysis and investigation of all reported transfusion related medical events on all three SWCHSC campuses.

Developing the Divisional T.Q.M. plan for SWCHSC Laboratory Services.

Actively involved in teaching and clinical studies at SWCHSC

Assessor for the American Association of Blood Banks and will begin the training process toward becoming an assessor for Quality Management Program-Laboratory Services Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (QMP-LS OLA) in December.
