Lee Grabner, ART (CSMLS)  

I began my career in Hematology at the Winnipeg General Hospital (now Health Sciences Centre), advancing from bench technologist to clinical laboratory instructor to charge technologist. During those 16 years I obtained my ART in Hematology.

In 1989 I assumed the role of Coordinator of the Blood Transfusion Service at the Health Sciences Centre (HSC). The Health Sciences Centre is a tertiary care teaching hospital comprised of 5 hospitals. It is designated the Manitoba trauma centre, the centre for solid organ and bone marrow transplantation, and most hospital-based pediatric care in the province. It also provides programs such as adult and pediatric oncology, cardiac, vascular, trauma surgery and women’s health. The HSC is part of a centralized transfusion service (CTS) unique in Canada.

In 2006 I accepted the position of Laboratory Manager for Diagnostic Services at Canadian Blood Services - Winnipeg Centre. CBS Winnipeg Centre provides centralized transfusion services to 2 tertiary care hospitals, 4 community hospitals, and 2 health centres in Winnipeg as well as 70 hospitals in rural Manitoba and also provides reference services for Northwestern Ontario and 6 Manitoba crossmatching sites. The CTS is based in the Diagnostic Services Crossmatch Laboratory. CBS Winnipeg Centre is situated on the HSC campus.

We also provide a centralized provincial perinatal testing service based out of the Manitoba Rh Program Laboratory and national HPA, HLA and HNA testing provided by the Platelet Immunology Laboratory.
