Laurie
Beitel, ART
Currently, I am the Manager of the Hematology and Transfusion Laboratory Service for the Regina-Qu'Appelle Health Region.
Recently Saskatchewan combined 32 health
districts into 12 regional health authorities to reduce duplication, to create a
more efficient administration, and to improve recruitment and retention of
health care providers. The laboratory areas are still waiting to see how this impacts us,
as so far the restructuring has been from the top. Because the organizational
charts were distributed only recently, we know under whose umbrella we fall, but
not what it means for workload and staffing issues.
I worked for 10 years at the Regina CBS
when it was still known as the Red Cross BTS, Regina Center, so that tells you
how old I am. I also worked for 2
years at the Vancouver BTS and while I lived in British Columbia, I obtained my
ART in immunohematology. I loved BC
and my family and I lived like a tourists while we were there, site-seeing every
weekend.
We moved to Grande Prairie Alberta where I took a job as supervisor of the blood bank and accession areas. Northern Alberta was also lovely, but as all our family was in Saskatchewan, we moved back home to my present job in Regina.
I look forward to serving on the TraQ NSG.
