* Reverse group with 2 drops of patient plasma and 1 drop of red cells, incubated at 4° C for 15 minutes

* The autocontrol can detect if a cold autoantibody such as autoanti-I is present (which would react with both A₁ and B cells). The group O screen cells is included to detect possible cold-reactive alloantibodies such as anti-N, -P₁, and -Le^a (whose corresponding antigens may be present on either or both of the  A₁ and B cells).

The patient's ABO group was determined to be group B.
