* The autocontrol can detect if a cold autoantibody such as autoanti-I is present (which would react with both A1 and B cells). The group O screen cells is included to detect possible cold-reactive alloantibodies such as anti-N, -P1, and -Lea (whose corresponding antigens may be present on either or both of the  A1 and B cells).

The patient's ABO group was determined to be group B.
