Case B1: Positive DAT in a Neonate

Case Report

History

Mrs. RF is a 29-year-old female who has been admitted for delivery of her third child. She has no history of transfusion. History check reveals a group and screen was performed 11 months earlier.

Results from that admission:

  • O Rh negative
  • Antibody screen: negative by LISS IAT

A group and screen is ordered as a precaution and as a consequence of the difficult delivery of her second child. A healthy infant is delivered and the cord blood is sent to the lab for testing.

Tests

  • The laboratory SOP for maternal-fetal testing protocol requires an ABO/Rh and DAT on the cord blood.
  • A maternal group and screen is performed as ordered.
