The policies and serological procedures used to investigate the cases on this site reflect general Canadian practices. Such protocols vary widely within Canada and around the world. Individuals should always adhere to the policies developed in their institutions.

This site contains cases specifically developed for TraQ and cases that originally appeared elsewhere ("Other Cases") and have been modified and expanded..

To achieve the maximum educational benefit: from each case:

  • Review the case history and results

  • Where applicable, print antibody identification panel results and identify antibodies (on paper)

  • Answer online questions as they occur and review immediate feedback

  • Read online abstracts and full text articles in Further Reading

  • Answer quiz questions on paper and compare responses with those published

CSMLS PEP Credits TraQ cases are eligible for CSMLS Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) credits.

We welcome feedback on the cases. Contact Pat: Contact us

TraQ cases are divided into three categories:

Level A Cases

Level A cases reflect the practice of large transfusion services. Complex testing is performed routinely, with panels, extended antigen typing reagents and the ability to perform acid elution and autoadsorption available onsite.

Level B Cases

Level B cases reflect the practice of small hospitals where there are a limited number of blood products issued. Basic testing is performed in which pretransfusion testing is usually limited to a group and screen and crossmatch. No panels or extended antigen typing reagents are available onsite.

Level "O" Cases

Other Cases were originally developed elsewhere and are presented here with educational enhancements. They include cases with basic and complex practices.
